PRESS STATEMENT ON THE STANCE OF THE ISLAMIC MOVEMENT IN NIGERIA ON THE ATTACK OF ARMLESS PARTICIPANTS AT INTERNATIONAL QUDS DAY PROCESSION HELD AT ZARIA ON FIRDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2009 AND THE ATTEMPT TO FORMENT FURTHER TROUBLE IN THE STATE BY THE KADUNA STATE POLICE COMMISSIONER.


This year's Quds day has been marked all over the world with full participation from Muslims, Christians and even Jews who do not see justice in the illegal occupation of the state of Palestine. This took place in major cities like Paris, London, Moscow, Peking, New York, Tehran and in all cities of the occupied Palestine itself. In Nigeria peaceful processions were conducted in more than twenty (20) cities amongst which are: Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, and Maiduguri. However, in Zaria the police decided to open fire on the armless protesters against the illegal Israeli occupation of the Holy Mosque of Al-Aqsa and the land of the Palestine.

Unfortunately, it was only in Nigeria that the police opened fire on the demonstrators and in Zaria in particular. The question is why should Zaria be the only place where the peaceful procession was attacked in the whole world? The Kaduna state commissioner of police Tambari Yabo has confirmed killing two people, Abdurrahman Isa who was a student of Amir Shehu Idris College, Zaria and was residing at Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky's house, and another person yet to be identified. We believe that these people were murdered in cold blood because they were taken alive by the police. This is in addition to one Muhammad Musa Jaji who was also shot dead by the police. This brings to three the number of those

killed by the police.

Tambari Yabo has gone ahead at a press conference to allege that two of his police men were shot and wounded at by the peaceful procession.People at the scene of the incidence confirmed that a police man was shot in the leg by his colleague while trying to fire at the

procession. The other police man was shot at in the back either intentionally or accidentally by also his associate. At the press conference, the Kaduna state CP equally alleged that members of the Islamic Movement had arms and will not relent in their effort to confiscate the so called arms.

Mr Tambari has contradicted himself when he claimed that the police only fired when the protesters tried to seize a gun from one of his men. How can armed people try to bare handedly seize a gun? He should have rather claimed that the protesters were the first to fire at his men since he had claimed that they were armed! It will be recalled that some times in April this year; Tambari wrote a “security report” to the then Inspector-General of police claiming that members of the Islamic Movement were stock filling arms. The unfortunate allegations had since been reputed by Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky at press conference after which journalists were conducted round the purported sites were Tambari claimed the arms were being hoarded to see for themselves.

Now that Tambari is back with his ineffectual theory of arms possession against the Islamic Movement, we may ask whose memo he is implementing. Why is he so obdurate in wanting to cause chaos and anarchy in Kaduna state? In April this year, Chidi Opara reporters (chidiopara.com) published a report linking Tambari Yabo with the American Embassy contracting him to lunch offensive on Sheikh Zakzaky and his movement because they are “disturbed” by the growing popularity of Sheikh Zakzaky's Movement.

It is difficult to comprehend how over night someone can try to twist the history of thirty years of peaceful manner and pattern of the Islamic Movement into befuddled and directionless movement.In view of the recent happenings, we demand that the extra judicial

killings conducted by the Kaduna state police command under the leadership of Tambari Yabo should be investigated and should not be left unpunished.

We also demand that the bodies of the two people acknowledged to have been cold bloodedly murdered by the Kaduna state CP should be given to us for proper Islamic burial. We also demand that Tambari Yabo should be banned from formenting any

further trouble in Kaduna state in order to continue enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the state.
